The Optimist Voice: Our Ideals and Goals
September 26, 2009
The goals of this publication were not set with the usual attitude of being one of the rest. It sets out to be the best, or at the very least one of the best. We defined it as a pace setter as we earlier announced at the inception of the publication. We want to become that missing voice, that courageously identifies and defines some of the most important issues that our communities need to address.
While our goal is set at being genuinely constructive and in the most humble manner, we are not looking to be pacifiers of the great mass of the people, as so many media outlets have become over the years, contributing to the decay we continue to witness. We do not want to be the tools whereby great injustices may continue to be hurled at the people at such a rapid pace, in order to make it hopeless for them to even begin to address the serious issues the communities face. Neither do we set out just to make noise, for the sake of making distractive and rancous noise without genuine and laudable interest in the best for all people as our goal.
In fulfilling that, we have clarified some basic course we want to tread. First of all, we are yet to post the list of our Board and Editorial members because we are not in a rush to fill these positions as of yet. We are still contacting and talking to people. By the way, positions are completely voluntary at this time. When we come up with the list, we want to be sure those on it are committed to the ideals we stand for.
As such we have decided against soliciting people within existing administrations, as we recognize they may be sometimes put in some cumbersome position. High on the list are academicians with a free mind and willingness to make a difference in the way they know best, topical papers on topical issues. A few of them will feature on the Board, but for general submission of topical papers, it is open to anyone of them.
We also prefer, on the board of the publication, those who have freed themselves from the government to a greater extent, and can freely serve greater interests of the generality of the people. We prefer retired individuals who have contributed their quarter in some national capacity and are now free to be Patrons and Matrons because of genuine interest in continuing to make a difference to their communities. We also reserved a position for a smart hard working person at people’s level who not only has the ability to listen but can commiserate with the common man or woman.
Another area of importance to us at this time is; we intend to issue annual awards to a few people we believe have served well in their positions, regardless of any disagreements over some other criteria outside of how well they served in their capacities for positions either voted in, or appointed to. We restricted ourselves to performance within an entrusted position, because we believe everyone is human and cannot be perfect in all facets of life. But if they have verifiably strived and fulfilled commendable work for the position they sought or were appointed to, they should be held up as beacons for others to emulate, in like positions.
We believe in defining our heroes and heroines. We would however, not issue such awards to anyone while he or she is in office as much as we would love to encourage a good job while being performed. Awarding people while in positions of power clouds the rationale for doing it, and may create doubts as to whether they actually deserve to be commended, or it is to appease those in power. In short it makes the rationale questionable. We await the completion of their mandate first, then adjudge and issue when appropriate. This we believe is more just and credible.
In the endeavor above, we genuinely strive, and pray for guidance and divine help.
Stay with us, we will announce the recipients of this years achievement Award next week
