The
Bauchi Circle Inc., a non profit association formed almost three years ago
has formerly launched its activities locally, July 18, 2010. The
association’s name is a shortened form of the first Northern political
association that later turned into a political movement in Northern Nigeria,
formed by Mallam Sa’adu Zungur. That maiden association, formed during the
British colonial administration in Nigeria was tagged “Bauchi Discussion
Circle.”
Bauchi Circle Inc. was formed in the United States in 2007, but held its first formal meeting in January of 2008 at the City of Bowie, Maryland State. It has since obtained full registration from both state and federal governments in the U. S. The association has grown to about sixty members across the globe, and still expanding.
At a meeting held a few months ago, association members decided to launch locally in the summer vacation months this year, and then hold a grand launching with guests and international participation later next year.
The main thrust of the association is to network in an effort to strengthen each other while in the diasporas, as well as map out how to assist their local communities back in Nigeria. The association for example, has issued a press release with important pointers to the leadership of Bauchi State about its displeasure with the spate of youth violence early last year, giving genuine advice on what needs to be done to control the issue.
The founding members of the association first thought of forming the association due to the sudden but serious issues of insecurity and youths violence that emerged within the main cities of the state, especially Bauchi and Katagum. Since then, almost three years ago, they have gradually expanded from local membership within the Washington DC metro area, to different states of the United States, Europe and Asia.
