Africans
on the continent may not be the most pressed to know the dynamics of the
ongoing color war in the world. The colonial experience after all, has been
some half century in the past. Though that should not have made people sit
back, we can generally say that the African struggle for progress and equal
treatment as any other human or nations of this planet has not generally
been effective yet.
But the African American, who has to some degree made progress in raising his status from that of less than a human to a full human being at about the same time as the African struggling to free himself from colonial control, half a century ago, is still engaged in that struggle today. For that reason, we will look into what he has discovered. He lives among the most developed of the European societies on this planet, and has a first hand experience of the color battle. He might not have chosen that fight, but for his survival he has been forced to carry on with it.
This issue of race relations has revisited our discourse owing to the current condition of the world physically (effects of global warming), militarily (threat of annihilation through nuclear), economically (effects of globalizing economy leading to recent economic collapse that affected the world), and most importantly the all the more apparent power play behind the scenes that make international commerce unfair, unjustified and the world financial markets IMF and World Bank tyrannical.
Because all the developing countries have colored populations, and almost all industrialized countries are Europeans, the issue before us calls into question the need to reassess how race issues and racism had played itself, and continues to play a role. It is foolish in this age and time to believe it was just coincidence, or that other invisible forces and hidden rules from the clarified and agreed rules were not playing in the background.
Before we learn from what studies are out there about racism, we need to begin with some scientific facts. First of all, one has to understand that genetically, Africans have the capacity within their genes to produce people or various hues, from their own color at one extreme, to a completely white human, and all other colors in between. This is an accepted genetically confirmed phenomena. The first human to walk the earth, is an African from the continent.
If you live on the African continent, you might have seen how two black people come together and give birth to the most light skinned individual (Albino), a genetic deficiency of a chemical known as melanin that gives skin its dark tone. Recent progress in genetics that made it possible to mark the complete human genome, or genetic code has confirmed that you can get all the races on this planet from an African.
People of “white” race, popularly called Europeans or Caucasians however, cannot produce people of other colors by themselves. They can only produce their own color. They are not in the majority either. Three quarters of the world population belong to people of various hues, from black, to brown, yellow and red and all colors in between. It is for that reason, according to a popular psychologist who had written numerous papers on this phenomena, Dr Francis Cress Welsing, that people of European origin that classify themselves as “white” assume a mindset that they are in danger of being wiped out as a race, and in essence punishing every other race on the planet for something creative from day one, for which they have no part in determining..
Genetic make up of a human being is not a subjective issue that man has anything to do with, or an ability that he has determined by himself. Genetics came intact from God the Creator of humans, and the impact of people of color being stronger than that of the white race along with it. The reality is that all other races except the white race can produce people with a degree of shade of darker skin, or some form of color. Which according to psychologists means that the odd race of all the others is the white race. By this they mean it is a deficiency that one would assume they would accept and mingle with everyone else as is done by everyone, not choose to punish everyone because their race is the only one that have the inability to produce children of color.
The whole world however is being made to accommodate that mind set of white supremacy. It has permeated all aspects of life, social, economic, political, commercial and all else across the world. All people who objectively studied racism and its effect on the world advocate a social campaign that will change that course of action in order to reach and maintain a peaceful and just world.
Though not directly attacking that system as such, many white race individuals have also reached the conclusion that the present world system needs to be overturned for a more just and fair system that will bring some semblance of development, eradicating the seething poverty and injustice to majority of the world population. But to do that effectively, one needs a deeper understanding of the mind set, the process, and the structure of racism across the world. The Color-Confrontation theory presented by Dr Welsing in her 1991 book “The Isis Papers” is a good start.
So what is racism, and is it confined only to the United States where it is mostly used and practiced? In his 1969 publication, Neely Fuller explains that “racism is not only a pattern of individual and/or institutional practice; it is a universally operating ‘system’ of white supremacy and domination in which the majority of the world’s white people participate.” [from Welsing, 1991] Going further on this same premise, Dr. Welsing argued credibly about the why, how, and the what sectors of the phenomena. Briefly she sees it as emanating from inadequacy turned on its head to make the adequate majority (with abilities to produce color) feel inferior, and in the process designing a self-serving system that keeps the white race “pure,” their pockets full, and their power and domination in place.
She however seem to think that, as a psychological phenomenon, the white race could be helped by world psychologists who have seriously conducted a study of the it, such as herself, if the white supremacists are genuinely looking for a way to accept their situation that is not manmade, and embrace a more community based thinking, co-existence on the only one habitable planet on our solar system. She writes:
“white people of the world presumably also could benefit from such an awareness of the motivation behind behaviors that often baffle them. If they are sincere in their attempts to stop the practices of white supremacy (racism), whites may be able to find methods to do so once the cause is understood.” (Welsing, 1991 Pg. 13)
Effect of Racism on World History
The seriousness of this color war has forced contemporary historians to write history as it best fits them, away from reality, so much so that one has to go on a quest with an open mind to find real and more credible history from fragments and put it together. .
A typical example of such findings shows that the earliest people that occupied Chaldea, where the father of the three faiths came from are Black Africans generally known far back in history as Kushites (from Kush, or Cush). An English Orientalist by the name of General Sir Henry Rawlinson, after an intense archeological and philological study concluded that the dominant race in Babylonia at the earliest time to which the monuments reached back in history was Kush. And he is not the only one, or even the first to reach that conclusion.
People classified as Kushite have black African (negroid) features. Most closely referred to that group today are Abyssinians (Ethiopians). Ethiopian as a term was used as a general term in the ancient times for black skinned people. Just as the Egyptians civilization has today been contracted to stereotypify modern day Egypt within its border, whereas it spanned the whole length of the Nile River, Ethiopia was a name first given the black race by the Greek, and later used generally for the race by Historians and others. Kushites and Hamites are sometimes interchangeably used also. It should be noted that Hamites as a term has its roots in one individual Ham. Ham is one of the children of Noah. The descendants of Ham are Hamites. Whenever they are classified as a group they are generally meant to denote people of black African ancestry or characteristics.
Also for those who study the Old Testament, the oldest of the three religious scriptures of the Abrahamic faith, they will find that the genealogy of the sons of Ham (Tenth chapter of genesis) derives Nimrod from Kush, not Kush from Nimrod. Nimrod is celebrated as a Mesopotamian Monarch. It shows that Hamites issue from Africa and migrate eastward to populate what today is termed the Arabian Peninsula, and the Euphrates. In Genesis we learn the genealogy of Ham. Accordingly his sons were Kush, Mizraim, Phut, and Cannan, and Kush begat Nimrod.
Ham is a son of Noah and Ham is the father of Nimrod, and in some versions the grandfather of Nimrod. Nimrod is a Mesopotamian Monarch. He is one of the most famous founders of the kingdoms that developed in the Mesopotamian region, associated with building several cities, and with commissioning the construction of the Tower of Babel. Mesopotamia is the region or civilization that evolved around the rivers Tigris and Euphrates now in modern day Iraq.
That in essence will show that the descendants of Ham of dark hue from the continent of Africa were occupying an area that many generations later (almost a thousand years) produced the Prophet Abraham, the father of the three world faiths. The story of that tower though contradicts Godly worship for which Noah and his progeny were aligned. Though some sources in Hebrew and later Arabic brings Nimrod to a physical encounter with Biblical Abraham, portraying him as a pagan king, the Bible did not mention that. In Biblical genealogy, Abraham did not arrive on the scene until ten generations after Noah.
It may be worthwhile at this juncture to set some facts straight for greater understanding of what follows. We have made many references to Abyssinia or Ethiopia. As described by John G. Jackson an authority in Ancient African studies in his introduction to Lane-Poole, Stanley’s book “The Story of the Moors in Spain,” in ancient times, Africans in general were called Ethiopians; in medieval times Africans were called Moors; and in modern times Africans were called Negroes. Ethiopians in short meant “burnt face’ and were given that name by the Greeks when they first come in contact with them. Ethios meant burnt in the language of the Greek.
According to Jackson “The word negro was manufactured during the Atlantic Slave Trade; or to put it another way, there are many species of small fish in the ocean; when put into cans they are called sardines. There are no free fish called sardines.” Jackson further explained that the derogatory term came only after such Africans became enslaved and put in chains, just as a fish only became a sardine when canned.
We may assume that racism took a new turn after the decision to buy and sell Africans as commodities during the third modern era that named the Africans carried away in that manner as negroes. In fact Jackson says the Hamites, Ethiopians and Moors are viewed as the Progressive Africans. Others are viewed as the backward ones and termed Negro. Trans-Atlantic slave trade begat the term negroes.
And finally, Arabia and Spain. For the Arabian Peninsula once again we may be able to make a more concise presentation by quoting a former Prime Minister to the Sultan of Muscat, Oman Dr. Bertram Thomas who noted:
“The original inhabitants of Arabia. were not the familiar Arabs of our own time, but a very much darker people. A protonegroid belt of mankind stretched across the ancient world from Africa to Malaya. This belt by environmental and other evolutionary processes, became in parts transformed, giving rise to the Hamitic people of Africa to the Dravidian peoples of India, to an intermediate dark people inhabiting the Arabian Peninsula. In the course of time two big migrations of fair skinned peoples came from the north, ...the Mongoloids...and the other the Caucasoid to drive a wedge between India and Africa.”
And much closer to recent history, colored people from North African region crossed the Mediterranean into Spain, captured it and ruled for seven hundred years. They were a mixture of Moors and Berbers, who were part of the army of a great general of that time named Tarek. They brought to that part of Europe knowledge, development and architectural beauty as was not seen earlier in the land. They were known as Moors of North Africa. Before they entered Spain, under the direction of an Islamic governor of North Africa Musa Ibn Noseyr, the country has been ruled for two hundred years by people known as the Visigoths (West Goths), a barbarian people who took advantage of the decline of the Roman empire to attack and occupy some vestiges of Rome.
Under the command of Tarek the Moor, a Moor army of about 7,000 was said to have set out camping at Gebal Tarek (Gibraltar) from where an attack was launched. Though the governor, Musa was sent by Khalifa Waled from Arabia, the North Africa he oversees was made up of Berbers and Moors. These group of colored Africans conquered and ruled Spain for seven centuries. Though some sources tend to show or give the impression that the people then looked like modern day lighter Arab, the Moors were in actual fact a brown and dark skinned people of North Africa of that era.
Conclusion
It seems that the African being the most potent color producer may continue to be the worst receiver of racist targeting, even if indirectly. His self-esteem targeted, his history destroyed and his countries made desolate by force and design with few conniving natives from within. And finally, it appears that whoever becomes the most potent threat to the realization of segregating the white race away from others at any given time may be targeted. The Jews were before the World War II. They were rising beyond the position any colored person should. Believe it or not being Semites (meaning they have black as well as white background making them a mixed race), they were nearly obliterated. Today it is the Muslim, whose founders were another Semite (mixed race). Those nations that follow the faith with a majority of its population are also basically colored. Unless and until people see the real motive behind some of what appears incomprehensible to them, it may take more wasted years before the world turns such destructive actions around.
